Did your Summary Block content disappears?
If your Summary Block content suddenly vanished without you touching anything, you aren't alone. I recently had to contact Squarespace support for a client site facing this exact issue, and the explanation reveals a major change in how disabled pages behave.
The Situation
For a while, many of us used a common workaround: we would disable a collection page (like a Blog or Gallery) to hide the "source" from the public while still displaying that content in a Summary Block elsewhere on the site.
However, Squarespace recently confirmed that this was actually a "glitch" on their end. According to Squarespace Customer Care, an issue previously allowed disabled content to show in Summary Blocks. They have now released a "fix" for this behavior.
The Result: Now that the fix is in place, disabled content can no longer display in Summary Blocks. If your linked collection is disabled, your Summary Block will now show an error or appear empty.
The Better Workaround: Password Protection
If you still want to keep your "source" pages hidden while keeping your Summary Blocks functional, you need to change your strategy.
Instead of disabling your collection pages, Enable them but set a Page Password instead.
Why this works:
Visibility: Password-protected collections are hidden from the public and search engines.
Functionality: Unlike disabled pages, content from password-protected pages will still display inside your Summary Blocks.
Pro-Tip for Synced Blocks Users
This is the exact strategy I recommend for users of my Synced Blocks plugin. It is the most reliable way to keep your site structure clean and organized without expose your reusable block
Take Action: Check your site's Summary Blocks today. If they are missing content, head to your Page Settings, enable the source collection, and add a password to keep it hidden.
