Proposal: control First day of the week in Squarespace datepicker

Squarespace Datepicker is a plugin designed to enhance Squarespace forms and product forms by allowing users to select dates from a calendar interface. This improves the customer experience and reduces errors in form submissions, particularly in booking or delivery workflows.

Feature Released – June 2025
You asked, we listened. As of June 2025, the ability to set the first day of the week is now part of the core Squarespace Datepicker plugin.
🎉 No more workarounds — just update the plugin on your existing site to unlock this feature.

Recently, a customer asked whether it’s possible to configure the first day of the week on the calendar to better match user expectations. For example, many North American users are accustomed to calendars starting on Sunday, while others may prefer a Monday start.

Can we adjust the code to make the first day of the week Sunday (like in your widget configurator)? Most of our customers are used to calendars that begin on Sundays, and we want to make the booking experience as smooth as possible.

This question comes from Sunset Beach Cabanas, and it brings up a great point about localization and user comfort.

Why the First Day of the Week Matters

The first day of the week is more than just a detail — it aligns with cultural expectations and habits. A Sunday-start calendar may feel more intuitive to users in the U.S., while a Monday-start calendar is the norm in many European and Asian countries. This small adjustment can improve booking clarity and reduce friction.

Feature Request: Set Start of the Week

We’re considering adding a new setting to datepicker rules, allowing users to choose the start of the week.

Here’s how it might work:

  • Default Behavior: Monday is the default starting day (as is standard in many international calendars).

  • Optional Override: A site-level option (e.g. weekStart: 0) could be added to shift the first day to Sunday.

  • User-Friendly Configurator: The visual widget configurator would reflect the chosen setting

Conclusion

This proposed feature is part of our ongoing effort to make Beyondspace plugins more adaptable and user-friendly. If you’re using the Datepicker plugin and would benefit from this feature, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re gathering feedback before rolling this out. Feel free to reply with your thoughts or tell us how your visitors use the calendar UI.
